Arizona State junior Dallas Escobedo was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Escobedo picked up a win and a save against Oregon in the Sun Devils’ final regular-season series. She held the Ducks to a .119 batting average and struck out 19. She allowed two runs in 13 innings (1.08 ERA).

We probably would have felt better about Ryan McDonough’s introduction as the Suns’ general manager Thursday if Lon Babby, the club’s president of basketball operations who hired him, had not rolled out his “Five Ps” and had just said, “You know what? I’m going to get out of the way here and let the new guy do his thing.”
OK, so we can’t be too hard on Babby for working in his “Preparation. Perseverence. Poise. Pride. Performance.” schtick, although we wish he’d add a sixth P next season — Points.

Nate Causey grand slam leads ASU baseball to dramatic win over California

BERKELEY, Calif. — Designated hitter Nate Causey hit a two-out grand slam in the top of the ninth inning to break open a tie game as the 13th-ranked ASU won the series with a 10-7 victory over Cal on Sunday at Evans Diamond in Berkeley, Calif.
Causey finished the day with a career-high six RBIs on two hits and scored a pair of runs to lead the Sun Devils (32-15-1, 14-10) to their ninth three-game series win of the season, including their fifth Pac-12 series. His six RBI are the most by a Sun Devil since Abe Ruiz had six vs Western Michigan on Feb. 17, 2012.

The true cost to operate Jobing.com Arena ranges from $ 5.1 million to $ 5.5 million a year, which is about $ 10 million to $ 20 million a year less than the Glendale City Council has agreed to pay hockey-related interests to manage the facility in recent years.
The net management costs, included in documents recently published on the city’s website, are bundled in the city’s solicitation for a new company to operate the city-owned arena.

The Diamondbacks placed right-hander J.J. Putz on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow strain and recalled right-hander Will Harris from Triple-A Reno.
Putz left his outing on Tuesday night after facing just one batter. He said he felt tightness in his elbow and tingling in his arm down to his fingers.
